A crisis is defined as an intense, stress-producing situation where one may feel confused, anxious, vulnerable, afraid, angry, guilty, hopeless, and helpless. This may happen because one is dealing with a significant life change (puberty, change in relationship, birth of a child, abuse, school or work stressors, addiction, money issues, etc.) or because of an unexpected shock (death, illness, violence, natural disasters, etc.) — or even both.
